How to stop receiving marketing calls

I don’t know exactly when this got out of control. And even if governments have “Do not call me” lists which companies must respect (in theory), the amount of calls we received to sell us something keeps just increasing over and over.

So I wanted to share a little trick I discovered recently (probably this is already something old to some) to keep your peace of mind, and letting you to focus on just living your life without any annoying calls (because it is our right to be in peace just lying on a couch bing-watching series without getting interrupted).

I feel for the people behind the other side of the phone, I know it is also their right to work (and indeed an honest job is always something to applaud), but there is a fine line between working and annoying people when they didn’t even wanted that call.

So here are the steps for iPhones (I don’t have an Android phone but it is very similar probably):

  1. Create a new contact in your phone called A Junk Calls (The A is to keep it at the top of your list for convenience, but you can call it whatever you want).
  2. Go to your Calls app (that option is not in the Contacts app) and go to Contacts tab.
  3. Locate this new contact, open it, and there will be an option called Block this contact.
  4. Click on that, and that will set your contact as blocked. This is the first part.
  5. Once you receive a call that you want to avoid in the future, hang up (or once you hang up), go to Calls app.
  6. Go to Recents tab, locate the number that just called you and click on the info icon. This will take you to the phone number information.
  7. Look for an option called Add to Existing Contact, click on that, find your contact A Junk Calls, and click on Update to save your changes. It is at this step where it is just really convenient to put the “A” at the front, because it is just easier and faster to look for that contact.

After doing this, that number will be blocked from ever calling you back. Indeed, this contact will contain a very large list of numbers.

If you get to the point that is too much, simply add another blocked contact and insert new numbers there.

That’s it!

Happy lying on the couc… I mean, Happy living your life without annoying calls!
